MANSFIELD - Joseph E. Burkholder, 27, of 948 Hurley Hill Road, Morris, has been charged by state police with theft and criminal conspiracy.
According to court documents, Burkholder and Melissa A. Spencer allegedly took a junked van from Auwarter Auto Salvage Inc., 742 N. Williamson Road, Covington Township, on July 14 with the intention of selling the vehicle for $400, but were arrested for a burglary in Cameron, N.Y., before it could be sold.
Burkholder was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail.
He waived a preliminary hearing, and his county court arraignment is set for Jan. 2.
