WATSONTOWN - One family hair and tanning salon wanted to bring something new - bling strands.
Owners and stylists Jennifer Allis and Amanda Bacchieri, of Stylebox, 203 Main St., said they were the first in Watsontown to offer the bling strands.
"It's tinsel for your hair," Allis said. "It's a decoration."
The bling strands, along with feather extensions, are two current hair trends.
"The bling strands are for a special occasion," Allis said. "They last three days to a week. We can get them to last a few weeks. They're awesome for the holidays. The bling strands are more popular than the feathers because we're the first in Watsontown."
Allis previously had a hair salon in Williamsport and Bacchieri dreamed of owning a salon, so they talked about opening their own salon.
Stylebox officially opened Nov. 7. They will host a grand opening Jan. 14.
For Allis, Watsontown was a better location.
"Williamsport has too much of the same," she said. "We wanted to bring what we knew we could offer to Watsontown and to this area. ... It's like people have been waiting for us to get here."
What makes Stylebox different from other hair salons is how they treat their customers, Allis said.
"We care about our customers," she said. "We get to know our customers first. They become friends. We try to customize everything to their personality and to their work life."
For both Allis and Bacchieri, there is no one favorite thing they do.
"I like to do it all," Bacchieri said. "I just wanted to always make people pretty and feel good."
"My favorite thing is watching someone walk out the door with a big smile on their face," Allis said.
Colors, foils and shellac for nails are some of the popular services they provided the most since they opened. Allis said the shellac nails are popular because it is still so new to the area.
They said the shellac is a ultraviolet nail polish that starts as a gel and hardens to a shell for fingernails.
In the future, Allis said they plan to expand the salon, possibly by adding more tanning or a nail technician, since the stylists currently do it themselves.
