Pancake breakfast

DEWART - St. John's United Methodist Church, 49 River Road, is serving a pancake and sausage breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Proceeds support the Lighthouse addition to the church.

Pot luck dinner

NEW COLUMBIA - St. John's United Church of Christ will hold a pot luck dinner at its social hall, 906 Old Route 15, from 4-6 p.m. Cost is a donation. Meal includes meat, potatoes, vegetables, rolls, butter, dessert and drink. For more information, call 568-0058.

Special speaker

The Rev. Conrad Gibson, of Bethlehem Baptist Church in York, will speak at Shiloh Baptist Church, 433 Walnut St., during the 11 a.m. worship service.

Vegetarian spaghetti supper

Mountain View Christian School, 305 Fleming St., South Williamsport, will hold a vegetarian spaghetti supper with live entertainment at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per person/families of three or more is $5 per person. The event supports housing needs for a family of six.

Interactive classes

QUIGGLEVILLE - The Lay Ministry Institute of the Upper Susquehanna Synod presents "The First 1,000 Years of the Church" from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 15, 29 and Feb. 12, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 1877 St. Michael Road. Topics will include heroes and heretics, the development of the creeds and liturgy, how civilization was saved by a solar eclipse, and strange and unusual historical events. This will be a highly interactive class. The cost of each class session is $5. Register with the Rev. Melody Sell at prmsell@verizon.net.

All Saints Episcopal Church, 1656 Scott St., will hold a turkey pot pie dinner at noon. Call 326-0191 for more information.

Friday

Holy Cross Orthodox Church, 1725 Holy Cross Lane off Northway Road, in cooperation with the United Churches of Lycoming County, will hold a service in observance of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity at 7 p.m. A free-will offering will be received to benefit the ministries of the United Churches. Refreshments will follow in the Orthodox Fellowship Center, adjacent to the church.

Concert scheduled

LAIRDSVILLE - Lairdsville Faith Church, 6786 Route 1189, will host Lynn Swizinsky in concert at 7:30 p.m.

College history talk

Following a covered dish dinner, The Friday Nighters, a social group at Pine Street Church, will listen as Dr. John Piper, professor of history and author of the book "Lycoming College 1812-2012," will talk about the 200-year history of Lycoming College. All are welcome. Bring a dish to share; offering is $3. Call 323-4604 to register.

St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 2233 Linn St., will hold a pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m. featuring all-you-can-eat pancakes, eggs to order, sausage or bacon, juice and coffee. Cost is $7 for adults, $4.50 for children 6-12 and under 6 eat free.

WATSONTOWN - St. John's Lutheran Church, 6590 Musser Lane, will hold a pancake breakfast from 7-11 a.m. featuring pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, fruit salad and beverage. Cost is donation. Proceeds will benefit youth attending 2012 ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans.

Financial seminar

COGAN STATION - Financial adviser Joshua Hall will hold a "Preparing for the Next Financial Crisis" seminar from 7-9 p.m. at Balls Mills United Methodist Church, 5941 Bloomingrove Road. The seminar explores the issue of out of control deficits and reckless government spending in the U.S. The consequences will be dramatic, are fast approaching and will effect all of us.
