A former city resident has lost touch with some of her friends from the area and would like to get back in contact with them.
Ethel Rutt, 98, a former Williamsport resident during the 1960s and 1970s, now resides in the Willow Valley Retirement Community near Lancaster.
Ethel and her husband were active volunteers with Cogan Station Christian Church.
According to her friend and fellow Willow Valley resident Mimi Connelly, Ethel was a driven volunteer.
"She had no children of her own, so she felt compelled to help other children," Connelly said of Ethel's work in Christian education and missionary work to help the children of Trinidad.
Connelly said she was encouraged to contact the community newspaper where Ethel lived because of a success she had in dealing with another community newspaper.
"I wanted to reach out to the community where I grew up to find someone I went to school with in eighth grade," Connelly said. "I wanted to apologize to the family for something my family may have done ... the newspaper published a letter and I heard from the sister that the woman had died, but that she was thankful for my letter and apology."
Ethel said she spent seven or eight years in the Williamsport area.
"I'd love it if just one person could reach out and say hello," Connelly said. "She's just so generous."
"I've been very blessed," Ethel said.
