LEWISBURG - The Heart of Lewisburg Ice Festival will offer several winter events for area residents to participate in Friday and Saturday.
Along with many of the annual programs the event holds, Sunset Rotary will sponsor a new event for festival attendees - the Frosty 5K race. Registration for the event starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Campus Theatre with the race starting at 10 a.m.
A team of ice carvers from First Night Ice Sculptors will deliver one-block ice sculptures and carve the Lewisburg throne Friday. That evening, a cappella groups from Bucknell University - the Bison Chips, Two Past Midnight, Silhouettes and Beyond Unison - will perform at the Campus Theatre at 5:30 p.m. A $5 donation for the event will benefit ACES Bucknell.
Saturday, along with the Frosty 5k, will feature the Polar Bear Plunge. More than 100 people already have registered for the event that will see residents take a dip into the Susquehanna River at 2 p.m. at the St. George Street landing. On-site registration starts 1 p.m. and the first 300 to sign up receive a commemorative T-shirt.
The Campus Theatre also will be showing a free screening of "Ice Age" at 4 p.m. Saturday. Those attending the movie are asked to donate gently used winter coats or a monetary donation to the Winter Heating Fund of Haven Ministries.
Other events happening at the festival include a chili cook-off 11 a.m. Saturday, children games, Coca Fest and an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast.
