6 people charged with drunken driving

WELLSBORO - Six people were charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants recently. According to documents filed at the offices of District Judges Rob Repard and James Carlson, they are:

Brian J. Kramer, 39, of 1674 North Road, Middlebury Center, charged by Wellsboro police following a traffic stop on Tioga Street on Jan. 17. He was issued a summons to appear.

Joseph L. Lyles, 25, of Pensacola, Fla., charged by Wellsboro police following a traffic stop on Main Street on Jan. 26. He was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail and his preliminary hearing was Jan. 31.

Jamie Gardner, 27, of 16 McInroy St., Wellsboro police charged him following a traffic stop at a motel parking lot at 329 Tioga St. on Jan. 21. He was issued a summons to appear.

Jordan J. Dewitt, 27, of Covington, state police charged him after he crashed his car on Route 287 on Jan. 26. He was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail and his preliminary hearing was Wednesday.

John E. Auwarter, 43, of 411 Aldrich Road, Millerton, Mansfield police charged him following a traffic stop on Lambs Creek Road on Nov. 9. He was released on $2,500 bail and waived a Jan. 25 preliminary hearing. His county court arraignment is set for Feb. 27.

Ronald D. Updike, 47, of 118A Main St., Blossburg, state police charged him after he crashed his car in Hamilton Township on Dec. 13. He was issued a summons to appear.

3 people facing drug charges

WELLSBORO - Three people face drug charges in district court. According to documents filed at District Judges Rob Repard and James Carlson's offices, they are:

Dennis A. Emmick, 19, of 780 Route 249, Middlebury Center, charged by borough police with possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, use and possession of paraphernalia following a controlled buy of 0.5 grams of crack cocaine for $80 in the borough Aug. 19. He was issued a summons for a Feb. 14 preliminary hearing.

Nathan R. Phillips, 21, of 24 Rods Lane, Covington, charged by borough police with use and possession of drug paraphernalia after police received a tip that a drug buy involving a known juvenile was taking place in Packer Park on Queen Street on July 27. He was issued a summons for a Feb. 14 preliminary hearing.

Devon E. Drayton, 20, of 348 Old Mill Road, Mainesburg, charged by officers with the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Bureau of Forestry with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia after an officer found him with 10 bags containing eight blue folded pieces of wax paper used for storing heroin, with the words "High Time" on them, on state forest lands during routine patrol of Mountain Ridge Road, Ward Township, on Jan. 28. He was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail, and his preliminary hearing was set for Feb. 8.

Woman charged with bad checks

WELLSBORO - Beth A. Berfield, 47, of 262 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, recently was charged with theft by deception and bad checks.

According to documents filed at District Judge Rob Repard's office, borough police charged her following an incident at Dunham's Department Store, 45 Main St., during which she passed two checks, one for $198 and one for $338, for merchandise on a frozen or blocked account.

She was issued a summons to appear at a Feb. 14 preliminary hearing.

Teen charged with criminal trespass

WELLSBORO - Zachary T. Putnam, 19, of 121 Spruce Hill Lane, recently was charged with criminal trespass.

According to documents filed at District Judge Rob Repard's office, borough police charged him after he forced entry into the Hamilton-Gibson House, 29 Water St., on Dec. 2.

He was issued a summons for a Feb. 21 preliminary hearing.

Teen charged in domestic incident

MANSFIELD - Shawn L. Jackson, 19, of 124 B Morris St., Blossburg, recently was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and underage drinking.

According to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson's office, Jackson was charged by Blossburg police after they were dispatched to a report of a woman screaming Jan. 27.

Police said when they arrived, they found Jackson, Christopher Ayers and Katie Martin in the apartment. Jackson became agitated and tried to leave, refusing the officer's command to stop. The officer used pepper spray and tackled Jackson to the ground, and Jackson allegedly hit the officer in the head with a closed fist.

Jackson was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail, and his preliminary hearing was Wednesday.

Westfield woman charged with lying to police

WELLSBORO - Sherri L. Leach, 41, of 71 Decker Hill Road, Westfield, recently was charged with making unsworn falsification to authorities.

According to documents filed at District Judge Rob Repard's office, borough police charged her after she reported to police that her wallet containing $1,100 in cash, credit cards, gift cards and prescription pills had been stolen from her car while it was parked on Tioga Street.

She was issued a summons for a Feb. 14 preliminary hearing.
