Alzheimer's meeting to be held at hospital

MUNCY - Muncy Valley Hospital's Skilled Nursing Unit will hold an open discussion at its next Alzheimer's support group meeting, 6:30 tonight in the cafeteria.

Free event discusses hospice care

DANVILLE - Geisinger Hospice is holding a free, informational event about hospice care at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Henry Hood Center for Health Research on the campus of Geisinger Medical Center.

Hospice care assists patients when there is no medical cure, offering care, comfort and support for persons with life-limiting conditions and their families.

The session will address hospice philosophy, history, services available and volunteering opportunities and will include a question-and-answer session. To register, contact Jane Brockman at 214-5488 or jkbrockman@geisinger.edu.

Hospital hosts 'Viva Las Vegas' ball

WELLSBORO - Enjoy the excitement of Las Vegas nightlife at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital Auxiliary's "Viva Las Vegas" ball on Feb. 18 at the Penn Wells Hotel.

Seating is limited and tickets, which cost $60, must be purchased by Monday. Proceeds benefit the hospital.

Ticket holders will take advantage of fun-filled, Vegas-inspired games, activities and entertainment. The evening begins with an hors d'oeuvres social hour, followed by four-course fine dining at 7 p.m. From 9 to midnight, attendees can dance the night away, courtesy of Epic Party DJ Entertainment.

Free parenting class offered

WELLSBORO - Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital will hold a free Expectant Parents class at 7 p.m. Feb. 14. It is on "Labor Preparation and Comfort Techniques."

Attendees will learn about relaxation techniques, breathing exercises and position changes. The class is designed to enhance comfort during pregnancy and labor and provide suggestions for the mother's support person. Registration is not necessary. For more information, call 723-0375.

Pediatric ALS course planned

WELLSBORO - Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital will hold a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) class 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 14 in the board room.

PALS provides pediatric caregivers, such as registered nurses, physicians and paramedics, with ways to identify, prevent and treat cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children.

Learn about shamanism

EASTVILLE - The Rev. Dr. DiAnn Baxley will conduct an "Introduction to Shamanism" workshop 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at Dancing Bear Lodge.

Baxley, a shamanic counselor, healer and teacher, will provide an anthropological and historical background to traditional shamanism, teach core shamanic principles and offer participants the opportunity to "journey" in a rhythm-induced meditative state for healing or insight for themselves or others.
