Free parenting class offered
WELLSBORO - Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital will hold a free Expectant Parents class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. It is on "Labor Preparation and Comfort Techniques."
Attendees will learn about relaxation techniques, breathing exercises and position changes. The class is designed to enhance comfort during pregnancy and labor and provide suggestions for the mother's support person.

Pediatric ALS course planned
WELLSBORO - Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital will hold a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today in the board room.
PALS provides pediatric caregivers, such as registered nurses, physicians and paramedics, with ways to identify, prevent and treat cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children. Dr. Barry Clark will be the instructor.

Learn about shamanism
EASTVILLE - The Rev. Dr. DiAnn Baxley will conduct an "Introduction to Shamanism" workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Dancing Bear Lodge.
Baxley, a shamanic counselor, healer and teacher, will provide an anthropological and historical background to traditional shamanism, teach core shamanic principles and offer participants the opportunity to "journey" in a rhythm-induced meditative state for healing or insight for themselves or others.

Free bereavement support group to meet
WELLSBORO - Laurel Home Health and Hospice is holding a free bereavement support group from 10:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 22 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital.
The instructor for the group meetings will be social worker Sherry Bodine. The ongoing support group meets regularly on the fourth Wednesday of every month. For more information, call 723-0760.

Attendees will learn about breast feeding, bottle feeding, caesarean sections and recovery as well as the possible situations requiring a C-section. For more information, call 723-0375.
Dining with Diabetes classes announced
Dining with Diabetes, a popular Penn State Extension program for adults with diabetes and their families, will be held at Lysock View Complex in Montoursville during the month of March. The classes offer healthy meal planning, cooking demonstrations and hands-on food preparation, class discussions and new physical activity choices.
Classes are offered weekly for four weeks, with a three-month follow-up class. Lab tests will be offered and participants will receive class handouts, test results, an exercise DVD, resistance band for exercising, Joslin Diabetes Center educational materials, completed collection of Dining with Diabetes recipes and Plate Method placemat.
Classes will be held at 2 p.m. March 1, 8, 22 and 29 on the second floor at Lysock View. An informational class will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 28 at Lysock View. That meeting will allow participants to complete initial paperwork and ask questions about their expectations of the class.
The cost is $40 per individual or $55 for a family of two people. Scholarships are available, and many health insurers will reimburse the cost.

WELLSBORO - Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital will hold a free Expectant Parents class titled "C-section Delivery & Breastfeeding" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 28.
Attendees will learn about breast feeding, bottle feeding, caesarean sections and recovery as well as the possible situations requiring a C-section. The class is part of a cycle of classes coordinated by registered nurse Stacey Tom, addressing various topics regarding pregnancy, birth, and newborns.
Classes are not sequential, and participants may join at any time during the cycle. Registration is not necessary.
