Dip meal

ELIMSPORT - Elimsport United Methodist Church, 16145 Route 44, will hold an old fashioned dip meal from 4-6:30 p.m. in the church social hall.

Pork, sauerkraut dinner

TIOGA - First Baptist Church, Church Street, will hold a pork and sauerkraut dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Cost is by donation. Proceeds will benefit the Tioga Old Home Days.

Items submitted for Area Church Briefs will run just once. Those submitting information should indicate which Saturday the item is to be used. To ensure publication, briefs should be submitted at least one week prior to the requested publication date via the Sun-Gazette's Virtual Newsroom or email to religion@sungazette.com. Briefs should be submitted in the following manner and include: Church name, address, event, time, date, cost or other information.

MILTON - The Kingdom Kidz Puppet Ministry will sponsor a Community Family Fun Night at the Milton YMCA,12 Bound Ave., from 6-8:30 p.m. in the warehouse. The event is free, however, supplies to make a sock puppet are $5. Natalie Brace, of the Northumberland County Good News Club, will share a Bible story and songs.

Guest speaker from Iran

MIFFLINBURG - Dr. Daniel Shayesteh, a former Muslim from Iran, will be the guest speaker during the 9:15 a.m. Sunday school and 10:30 a.m. worship service at the Mifflinburg Alliance Church, 1.2 miles north of Route 45 off Forest Hill Road. The director of "Exodus from Darkness" and an author of three books, Shayesteh is a national evangelist for the Christian and Missionary Alliance. For more information, call 966-4899.

HUGHESVILLE - A pre-Lenten service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 148 S. Main St.

MONDAY

Free seniors luncheon

All Saints Episcopal Church, 1656 Scott St., will hold a free senior citizens luncheon at noon featuring ham and string beans.

TUESDAY

Pancake supper

PENNSDALE - Trinity United Methodist Church, 658 Village Road, will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake supper from 4-7 p.m. featuring buckwheat, buttermilk pancakes, sausage, eggs and liverwurst. Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children 5-10 and free for those under 4.

Ash Wednesday services

Pine Street United Methodist Church, 441 Pine St. will hold public prayer and communion in the sanctuary from 7 a.m.-5 p.m.

Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 31 N. Loyalsock Ave. in Montoursville, will hold its service at 8 a.m.

LARRYVILLE - Larryville United Methodist Church, Larryville Road, will hold an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m.

WOOLRICH - An Imposition of Ashes and Communion will be held at 7 p.m. at the Woolrich Community United Methodist Church, 1080 Park Ave. Walk up or drive up Imposition of Ashes will be offered the same day outdoors from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

JERSEY SHORE - St. John Lutheran Church, 229 S. Broad St., will offer a 6 a.m. service in its chapel. A joint service with the other Lutheran churches will be held at 7 p.m. at Garman Lutheran Church, Avis, with Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes.

Fish dinners

St. Joseph the Worker Parish will hold a Lenten fish dinner from 4-7 p.m. at the Annunciation Fleming Center, 720 W. Fourth St. featuring baked haddock, macaroni and cheese or scalloped potatoes, vegetable, cole slaw, applesauce, roll and butter, dessert and beverage. Adult tickets are $7.50 in advance or $8 at the door and children under 10 are $4. Takeouts available. Advance tickets are available at the parish office at 711 W. Edwin St. or call 323-9456 or at the door the night of the dinner. Other Lenten fish dinners are scheduled for March 2, 16 and 30.

Lenten Bible study with lunch

LOCK HAVEN - The Salvation Army, 119 E. Church St., will host a Lenten soup luncheon and Bible study at noon each Wednesday starting today through April 4.

THURSDAY

Lenten doughnut sale

JERSEY SHORE - Trinity United Methodist Church, 1407 Allegheny St., will hold a doughnut sale starting at 7 a.m. featuring plain, sugar, powdered, cinnamon, and iced in chocolate, vanilla and peanut butter. Cost is $4.50 per dozen and $2.25 per half dozen.

Free fellowship meal

WATSONTOWN - St. John's Lutheran Church, 6590 Musser Lane, will hold a free fellowship meal from 4:30-6:30 p.m. On the menu: vegetable beef soup, rolls, fruit cup, sticky buns and beverage.

Lenten luncheon and soup sale

Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 31 N. Loyalsock Ave. in Montoursville will hold its Lenten luncheon and soup sale from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today and each Thursday through March 29. The menu will feature hamburg barbecue, hot dots, homemade vegetable beef soup, baked beans and homemade pies. Soup is $4.50 per quart. To order, call 368-1863.

FRIDAY

Soup sale scheduled

Mill Creek Mill Creek United Methodist Church, 2255 Warrensville Road, will hold a soup sale featuring vegetable beef, chicken corn, and ham and bean soup. Pickup is between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Advanced orders may be made by Feb. 19 by calling 433-3704, 433-3881 or 546-2462. A quart of soup is $4.50 and a quart of soup is $6.

Retirees eat free

Free lunch for retirees served at Montoursville Presbyterian Church, 205 Tule St., at noon. All retirees are welcome, free-will donations accepted. Future lunch dates are March 23, April 27 and May 25.

Fried fish sandwiches

TURBOTVILLE - Holy Spirit Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10275 Route 44 between Turbotville and McEwensville, will hold a fried fish sandwich supper from 5-8 p.m. Meal includes chips and coleslaw. Cost is $5. Call 649-5822 for more information.

Free community dinner

St. Paul Calvary United Methodist Church, 1427 Memorial Ave., will hold a free community dinner at 5:30 p.m. featuring a taste of Italy. Entertainment will be provided by pianist Tom Wenzel.

FEB. 25

Rummage, bake sale

M.O.P.S. (Mothers of Preschoolers) will hold a rummage and bake sale from 8 a.m.-noon at Pine Street United Methodist Church, 441 Pine St.

Women's Lenten breakfast

New Covenant United Church of Christ, 202 East Third St., Williamsport will host a Women's Lenten Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at the church. There will be a time of preparation for the Lenten journey presented by Rev. Clara Benson, followed by a great breakfast and good fellowship. There is no charge. Reservations may be made by calling the church at 326-3308.

Children's clothing giveaway

WATSONTOWN - Watsontown United Methodist Church, 1319 Eighth Street Drive, will hold a Joseph's Closet free children's clothing giveaway from 8-11 a.m. New or like-new clothing, clean laundered and in excellent shape, is ready to share with other families in the area. Drop off at the church one week before the giveaway date. No donations will be accepted on the day of giveaway. Preschool through high school sizes. Daniel's closet

Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1101 Washington Blvd., will hold a Daniel's Clothing event from 9-11 a.m. Clean seasonal clothing will be accepted at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at the church only, use the basement stairway on Washington Blvd. Items are not to be dropped off at the parsonage.

Soup, sandwich sale

JERSEY SHORE - Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church, 235 S. Main St., will hold a homemade soup and sandwich sale from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. featuring homemade beef vegetable soup and jiffy sandwiches. Preorders are being taken at 398-1909. Eat-in or takeout available. Sandwiches cost $3.50 and quart jars of soup $8. A special combo deal of four sandwiches and one quart of soup is available for $20.

Back from Brokenness seminar

Back from Brokenness, an eight-week study/support program for those people who desire to move out of the brokenness in their lives and into healing and wholeness will begin a new session at 7 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 700 Fairview Drive in Montoursville. The free in-depth study will help those people with past or present brokenness by apply healing choices according to Godly principals to their lives. Jesus, java and jams

LINDEN - "Jesus, java and jams" is scheduled from 7-9 p.m. at Pine Run United Methodist Church, 1719 Pine Run Road, featuring free coffee and other beverages, snacks and acoustic music by Crossfyre, a Christian rock/blues band from Montgomery, plus a craft activity for children.

"The Trials of Jesus" services include dramatic monologues, thematic hymns, and prayers that bear evidence to the fact that Jesus truly is the Son of God.
