5 earn amateur radio licenses

February 19, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Five local individuals have successfully completed the requirements to earn their amateur radio license from the Federal Communications Commission. They are:

Jerry A. Worsham, KF5OCL Technician Class.

Charles R. Puckett II, KB3YAE General Class.

Ron Behar, KB3YAD Technician Class.

Alan D. Kaufman, KB3YAG Technician Class.

Thomas C. Mahoney, KB3FAF Technician Class.

Amateur radio is a hobby that's a lot of fun and a great learning experience. In what other hobby can you talk with astronauts, to people all over the earth, send pictures anywhere, bounce signals off the moon and build your own transmitters?

Amateur radio is also invaluable for emergency communications when normal communications services are overloaded or just plain don't work.

Last year in Williamsport, amateur radio helped support the city's fire department with communications during a major flooding event.

For more information, contact the Bald Eagle Repeater Association at www.baldeaglerepeater.org or Travis Best w3tmb1@gmail.com.

The group's next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. March 20 in the Academic Center room B208 at Lycoming College.
