To celebrate National Spay Day on Feb. 28 and to raise funds for spaying and neutering, the Lycoming County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will partner with Hoss's Steak and Sea House today.
During the day, a letter can be presented with the dinner check to donate 10 percent of the proceeds to the SPCA.
The Lycoming County SPCA offers financial assistance for spaying or neutering to Lycoming County residents who earn less than $35,000 per year.
Applications are available on the SPCA's website at www.lycomingspca.org or at the shelter.
"Last year the SPCA had 4,117 animals through its doors. We know we can reduce those numbers through the spaying and neutering of companion animals," said Victoria Stryker, executive director.
Letters may be obtained through an email request to lycospca@lycomingspca.org or at the shelter.
Additional funds can be earned through the World Spay Day pet photo contest. Entrants can choose the nonprofit organization they wish to benefit when they register at www.humanesociety.org/photocontest to enter and vote.
Spay Day is a worldwide effort to bring attention to the need to prevent companion animals from reproducing. This procedure has many health benefits in addition to preventing the birth of unwanted kittens and puppies.
