On Feb. 10, students in Loyalsock Township School District who participated in the Lycoming County Fitness Challenge were awarding for their activities. Above, Beth Hufnagel, food service director, spoke to students in Miss Roush’s class at Schick Elementary School. Hufnagel presented the students with their nutrition incentive for reporting the most fruit and veggie points for week 2 of the Lycoming Fitness Challenge. In the top photo, Roush’s students received fruit smoothies and participated in a nutrition activity.
The winning recipes will be featured on their school's March menu calendar. Each week of the challenge, the classroom with the most fruit and veggie points receives a nutrition incentive event from the school Food Service Department. The weekly winning class selects a wellness treat and nutrition activity.
Each morning of the challenge, a daily nutrition tip for students also is read with the morning announcements.
