Club announces poetry and story winners

WATSONTOWN - Warrior Run Woman's Club, a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, announced the winners of their club's recent Poetry and Short Story Contest at Warrior Run Area schools.

Contestants were divided into categories by grade level: Category 1 included grades one through three; category 2 was grades four to six; category 3 was seventh to ninth grade and category 4 was grades 10 to 12.

Winners in the Poetry Contest were: category 1, Hannah Staman; category 2, Jamie McCormack, first place; Cassandra Eccleston, second place and Sarah Ranck, third place.

Category 3 winners were: Isabella Brenington, first place; Olivia George, second place and Lauren Bleisten, third place. Category 4 included first place winner Carrie Vognetz and second place winner Shawna Tyson.

In the short story contest, category 1 winners were Lauren Trapani, first place; Kylee Brouse, second place and Mikaela Majcher, third place.

Category 2 winner was Preston Hans, first place. Category 4 winners were Rebecca Lapp, first place; Jordyn Johnson, second place and Olivia Masser, third place.

The club's February meeting will be held today at First Lutheran Church, Fourth and Main streets.

Michael Sechler, President of the Turbotville Borough Heritage Society, will talk about the organization's effort to "Bring the Station" home.

A train station, built in Turbotville in 1886, has been bought and dismantled, and will be reassembled near the Turbotville Community Hall.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a business meeting. The club welcomes any woman over the age of 18 who is interested in community service and leadership development.
