Williamsport Sun-Gazette

MANSFIELD - After he became disruptive and was asked to leave a local establishment, a Texas man stabbed an employee in the abdomen and now is in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to local police.

Ernest M. Hughes, 34, of San Diego, Texas, was charged by Mansfield Borough police with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct and possession of an instrument of crime after the March 1 incident.

Police said he stabbed Levi Weiskopff, an employee of Chango's Cantina, 21 N. Main St., outside of the establishment after Weiskopff escorted Hughes out the door at the request of the bartender.

Weiskopff returned to the bar for treatment of his wound, a large laceration across his left abdomen, but did not seek further medical attention, according to police.

Hughes' preliminary hearing is at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson's office.
