MANSFIELD - A couple was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after they allegedly left a 9-month-old infant in an unlocked car while they went into an adult bookstore and then visited a "gentleman's club."
According to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson's office, James W. Shedden, 32, of 53 Painter Run Road, Gaines, and Michelle M. Frost, 30, of 910 Hill Road, Covington, were arrested by state police March 2.
Police allege Shedden and Frost first left the infant in their van and went into the Adult World bookstore on Route 287, Lawrence Township, March 2.
Another motorist saw the baby and called police.
Meanwhile, the couple then came out and drove to and entered the Bada Bada Bing Gentlemen's Club in Tioga Township, again leaving the child alone in the car. Police arrived soon after and said they found the infant asleep in a rear-facing car seat in the back seat of the unlocked vehicle.
The two then came out and said it was a stupid mistake, and they shouldn't have done it. The child was placed in the custody of his grandfather.
Shedden and Frost were each issued a summons to appear at an April 4 hearing.
