Homeless shoplifter asks clerk to call police

March 22, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Most shoplifters try not to get caught, but a homeless wheelchair-bound man who entered Puff's at 937 Arch St. and grabbed a $44 pack of cigars told an employee to call city police.

Roger D. Fontaine, 55, told the employee that if she did not call police he would leave with the cigars, police said.

The incident occurred about 10:10 a.m. on March 7. Officers arrived and took him into custody without incident. It is his second shoplifting arrest, police said.

Following his arraignment before District Judge James Carn on misdemeanor shoplifting and receiving stolen property charges, Fontaine was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $8,500 bail.
