Newberry Lioness Club observes 27th anniversary

The Newberry Lioness Club met recently to celebrate its 27th year of charter.

The theme of the night was Rock and Roll '50s. Everyone was urged to wear 1950s outfits such as poodle skirts, saddle shoes and school sweaters.

Area Lioness and Lions Clubs were represented. Lioness Clubs from Jersey Shore, Montoursville and Watsontown attended.

Lions Clubs were represented by Loyalsock Township, Newberry, Jersey Shore, Sugar Valley, Warrensville, Centre Hall, Milheim and Montoursville.

District Gov. Sherrill "Bud" Harris and Associate Lioness Chairwoman Matilda Beck attended as well as Past District Gov. Phillip Preziosi and Paul Shriner.

The PA Fellows Award was given to Judee Robinholt, secretary of the Newberry Lioness, as well as the Lioness of the Month.

Sandy Bastian was awarded the Lioness of the Year and the Cub Award was given to Krystle Sheleman.

For 15 years of service to Lions, awards were presented to Jeanne Jenson, Beverly Weaver and Barbara Weiss.

Winners for the best '50s costumes were given to Bob Dunne, Kathy Douty, James Douty, Tina Carter, Raymond Ingalls and Angela Medo.

Charter Committee Chairwoman was Mary Martha Messner, vice president of the Lioness; co-chairwoman Sherry Ault; and members Evelyn Moore, president of the Lioness; Pat Mowrey, Judee Robinholt, Beverly Weaver, Ellie Snauffer, Bea Remick and Emma Groover.

Members who passed this past year were remembered by placing their picture on a fireplace mantel. They were Lynne Williams, Margaret Fitzsimmons, Laine Reed and Margie Schweikle.
