Loyalsock Township supervisors discussed abandoning two roads to make way for a planned multi-million dollar hotel and conference center project at their meeting Tuesday evening.
However, the proposal to give up a portion of Russell Avenue and Miller Lane behind Third Street near the former Faxon Lumber site was tabled until developers for the project have a land use plan secured.
Part of the township bike path is located in the proposed construction area. Developers have agreed to rebuild and move the path, according to Bill Burdett, township manager. Supervisors also wanted some assurances they would not be giving roads away in case the hotel and conference center is not built.
"Once you abandon a road, you don't get it back," said Lester L. Greevy Jr., township solicitor.
Supervisors also tabled a proposal to consolidate separate parcels for the project until the land development plan is in place.
In other business, John Hays, a Windfield Drive resident, asked supervisors to once again reconsider plans for the Park Home senior living development. Hays, representing a group he calls "Loyalsock Neighbors," told supervisors at their last meeting that the project was exceeding the original footprint approved by the township.
He said the Park Home project is intended to be done in two phases, but the majority of work is planned for the first phase. Hays and the group he represents says an access road to the development off Poco Farm Road may never be built if the second phase is not completed.
Hays asked that the project be "rejected with an option to resubmit or revert back to the original design with access off Poco Farm Road."
Supervisors took no action on the matter.
A conditional use application for Light Tower Rentals at 2907 Lycoming Creek Road also was approved. The business, headquartered in Odessa, Tex., supplies various equipment for the natural gas drilling industry.
Burdett also reported that Supervisor Jeff Rauff is improving at Geisinger Medical Center after he was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle April 3. Burdett said he has a long recovery, but is making progress. Rauff will be transferred to Williamsport Regional Medical Center later this week to continue his rehabilitation, according to Burdett. His condition has been upgraded from critical to serious, according to a Geisinger spokeswoman.
The next supervisors' meeting scheduled for April 24 will be held at the Loyalsock Volunteer Fire Co. because the township office serves as a polling place.
