The American Cancer Society's Bark For Life mini relay will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday within the South Williamsport Pool Complex along East Central Avenue.
Bark For Life honors the life-long contributions of canine caregivers and also presents an opportunity for people to be empowered through their canine companion partnership and contribute to cancer cures through the mission of the ACS.
"The American Cancer Society Bark For Life is a non-competitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the ACS's fight against cancer," said Roxie Gohrig, a member of the Williamsport Bark For Life planning committee. "By supporting Bark For Life, you help the ACS save lives and that helps us move closer to our ultimate goal of a world with less cancer and more birthdays."

Fenway, the golden doodle of cancer survivor Lisa Bitler and her husband, Harold, of Westfield, will join the crusade against cancer at the fourth annual Lycoming County Bark For Life event, which will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the South Williamsport Pool Complex. Fenway is dressed as a superhero to celebrate this year’s theme, “superheroes.” Fenway is looking forward to meeting Penny, the James V. Brown library dog, who will serve as this year’s Bark For Life grand marshal.
For Gohrig, the event not only serves as a fundraising opportunity for the American Cancer Society, but also allows for an afternoon reflecting on the impact canines have in the lives of their humans.
Events for the Bark For Life, which will occur rain or shine, include a blessing of the animals, an official opening ceremony, raffles and games such as musical hoops, lick-or-treat and more.
Water and doggie pick-up bags also will be available for all dogs participating in the mile-long walk. Registration for the event is $10 for the first pet and $5 for the second pet and will take place between noon and 1 p.m. on site that day.
Dogs only need a license and current rabies tag to participate, and each registered dog will receive a Bark For Life bandana.
Owners also will find refreshments for sale on site, as well as various educational and fundraising tables to visit.
