Church group raises funds for Relay

JERSEY SHORE - The Avis United Methodist Church Relay For Life team has been raising funds for the Relay For Life of Jersey Shore over the past year.

The team has sold cookbooks, sunflowers, Christmas wreaths, sandwiches, had a soup and sandwich luncheon, a chicken parmesan dinner and sold items at the "Market at the Middle" event at Jersey Shore Area Middle School. This year's event will be held from 2 p.m. May 11 to 2 p.m. May 12 on the Jersey Shore Area High School track.

The Avis team will sponsor a Chinese auction with a variety of baskets to take a chance on. Tickets are available by calling Sherry Steppe at 398-8712.

Strike Out Cancer Day planned

MUNCY VALLEY - Katie's Country Store will host a Strike Out Cancer Day fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 12.

The Laporte Women's Club's Relay for Life Team, The Laporte Lappers Red Sox, will team up with Deb and Rich Fry, owners of Katie's Country Store, to host a fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Ten percent of the day's sales will be designated for the American Cancer Society. The Red Sox Relay Team will have a baked goods sale.

In addition, the day will be divided into innings and a box of Cracker Jacks will be given to the customer who arrives closest to the beginning of each inning, which will begin on each hour.

The Relay For Life teams in Sullivan County have adopted the theme "Strike out Cancer" and each team has selected either a Major or Minor League Baseball team for their name.

STPR rally set in Tioga County

WELLSBORO - The Keystone Kops Relay For Life team will hold a Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally on June 1.

This is a time-speed-distance rally designed for any legal vehicle, within the speed limit, on high-quality paved and unpaved roads in Tioga County.
