George W. Bailey Sr., 85, of 1293 Martins Road, Linden, Pa., died Thursday morning, April 26, 2012, at his home. Born Sept. 16, 1926, in Jersey Shore, he was the son of David Bailey and the former Elsie Lowmiller. George is survived by his wife, the former Mary Jane Bastian. They were united in marriage Sept. 3, 1949, in the Milton United Methodist Church. George was a graduate of the Jersey Shore High School. While in high school, he received the Keystone Farmer and American Farmer Award. In 1959, he was voted the Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year. He was a self employed farmer and for 17 years served as a Piatt Township Supervisor. Also surviving are two sons, George W. (Amy) Bailey Jr., of Linden and Craig A. (Trudy) Bailey Sr., of Linden. George also is survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday May 1, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, until time of services in the funeral home. Family will provide flowers. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Rev. Kevin E. Brophy will officiate.
