April 28, 2012

The woman accused of conspiring with a man she met online to commit sexual acts on a 3-year-old child was found guilty Friday by Judge Marc F. Lovecchio.

Samantha Marie Mathers, 24, of 2500 Federal Ave., has been found guilty of conspiracy to have deviate sexual intercourse with a child, conspiracy to commit aggravated indecent assault of a child, sexual exploitation of children, endangering the welfare of a child and corruption of minors.

She allegedly conspired with Richard L. Lafayette, 38, of Watertown, N.Y., to repeatedly abuse the child when he came home on leave from the Army in April 2011. Last November, Lafayette plead guilty to criminal solicitation of rape of a child and is serving a 7 1/2- to 15-year sentence.

Mathers, who waived both her right to a jury trial and a plea agreement, will be sentenced at 11 a.m. on July 3 by Lovecchio.
