Things turned violent for two state troopers when they assisted a landlord in evicting a Williamsport couple from Randall Circle housing on Wednesday.

Trooper Brandon Schrawder and Cpl. Charles Kindlimann responded to a call from housing coordinator Christy Leinbach requesting assistance to have Shantle Marie Hurst, 29, and her boyfriend, Joshua Brian Strohl, 27, evicted from Hurst's grandmother's apartment at 1801 Hazel Drive.

Leinbach reported that she had told Hurst and Strohl they were not to be living in the apartment, as neither was listed on the lease, according to court records.

The eviction went smoothly at first, but then turned violent when Hurst allegedly became confrontational with Kindlimann, according to an affidavit.

"After numerous verbal directives to leave the property, Hurst stepped up to be face to face and poked her finger in my right eye," Kindlimann wrote in the affidavit.

Meanwhile, Schrawder was escorting Strohl through the house as he gathered some personal belongings. When the pair went outside, they witnessed the confrontation between Kindlimann and Hurst.

When Kindlimann grabbed Hurst by the wrists to place her under arrest, Strohl allegedly punched Schrawder on the back of the head. Schrawder was able to pull Strohl to the ground and take him into custody.

"As a result of being punched in the head by the defendant, I sustained a lump on the back of my head with moderate swelling," Schrawder wrote in the affidavit.

The couple was arraigned in front of District Judge Gary Whiteman on Wednesday. Strohl, who was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and resisting arrest, is incarcerated in lieu of $35,000 bail. Hurst, who was charged with simple assault and harassment, is incarcerated in lieu of $7,500 bail.
