Failed lightning arrester causes power outage

April 30, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

A failed lightning arrester on Lycoming Creek Road was to blame for Saturday evening's power outage, PPL spokesman Rich Beasley said Sunday.

Crews worked through the night to fix the device, which is designed to protect electrical facilities from lightning strikes, Beasley said.

Originally 1,975 customers were without power and by 7:45 p.m. that number was down to 1,215 customers.

Power fully was restored at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
