TOWANDA - Court orders for a competency hearing for accused shotgun killer John DeSisti have been filed in Bradford County Court, and the accused murderer trial has been postponed.
DeSisti, 75, of Waverly, is charged with criminal homicide in the 2006 killings of David and Carol Keeffe in their rural Athens Township home, which the prosecution says stemmed from a land dispute between DeSisti and his first cousin, Carol Keeffe.
Jury selection for the trial, which was to start April 23, was postponed until Monday, but according to court documents, a competency hearing for DeSisti has been scheduled for May 11 at the Bradford County Courthouse.
DeSisti is being held at the Bradford County Correctional Facility.
State Attorney General press office representative Nils Fredriksen would not comment on the case except to say that it is proceeding through the county court system.
