Williamsport defeated Jersey Shore, 4-1, on Wednesday to finish its season at 14-1, win the HAC-I title and clinch a District 2-4 Class AAA playoff berth. Kenan Rajjoub and Lorenzo Ricci won the number one and two singles matches for the Millionaires. The Bulldogs and Millionaires needed to play yesterday's match after splitting their two matches this year and finishing in a tie for the HAC-I title.
In high school baseball, Montoursville defeated Selinsgrove, 16-11. Andrew Null and Dalton Young combined for six hits, two home runs, two doubles and eight RBI for the Warriors.
Behind two nine-run innings, Muncy cruised to a 19-3 win over Benton. Clayton Good and Dawson Fox both had grand slams for the Indians while Doug Zehner added two home runs and two RBI in the win.
Garrett Shnyder pitched four innings of two-run ball and drove in two runs to lead Montgomery to a 17-2 rout of Millville. Alex Worthington added two hits while scoring three runs and driving in three.
South Williamsport set a school record by starting the season 14-0 with a 7-2 win over Southern Columbia. Ryan Orgitano doubled twice and homered to drive in two runs for the Mounties in the win.
Zach Miller went 3 for 4 with a home run while Ryan Koch went 2 for 2 and scored three runs as Jersey Shore survived a scare and edged Midd-West, 7-6. The Bulldogs (11-2-1) stranded 14 baserunners in scoring position.
Loyalsock defeated Warrior Run, 8-3, to improve to 13-1 on the season. Kyle Datres went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Jimmy Webb had two triples and two RBIs. Luke Glavin hit a home run.
In softball, St. John Neumann's Kayla Henderson threw a perfect game in her first varsity start as the Knights beat Millville, 15-0, in four innings to finish a game started on April 24. Henderson struck out 10 of the 12 batters she faced. Alana Androvette scored three runs and Christina Mignot drove in a pair for St. John Neumann.
Sara O'Dell struck out eight batters as Loyalsock defeated Lewisburg, 16-0, in three innings. Amanda Daneker went 3 for 4 and O'Dell, Casey Ulmer and Ashleigh Bair all had two hits.
In college football, Lycoming senior Tim Okken wrapped up his distinguished football career by earning membership into the prestigious Hampshire Honor Society, the National Football Foundation in Dallas announced on Wednesday. He is amongst 721 players from 232 schools to earn the award, marking the largest group since the award's creation in 2007.
In order to be eligible for membership into the honor society, a player must be a starter or significant reserve on the team as a senior, maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout his entire course of undergraduate study and meet all NCAA-mandated progress toward degree requirements and graduation.
In college track and field, Mansfield University women's head coach Nadine Faustin-Parker has been offered and accepted a scholarship from the NCAA to attend the 2012 NCAA Women Coaches Academy this June 14-18 in Denver.
Faustin-Parker, a three-time Olympian sprinter, is in her first season as head coach of the Mountaineer program after spending the last four years as the Director of Track and Field Operations and assistant coach for the men's and women's hurdles and multi-events at the University of North Carolina.
