Mr. Griggs Coming to Our School
By CHANLER GRIBBIN
A man came to our school and his name was Mr. Griggs. We were learning about rocks and minerals in science and when we went swimming, Mrs. Holt told Mr. Stahl about Mr. Griggs and that he was a retired teacher who used to teach science.
Mr. Stahl got to talking and we had the chance of Mr. Griggs coming to our school to show us even more about rocks and minerals.
He came in and showed us the Periodic Table and how many of them there are. Then he showed us a way of identifying the different types of rocks and minerals. The graph was called the Moh's Scale.
So, then he laid out ten different types of rocks and minerals and we identified them correctly. The ones I thought were interesting were: graphite because you can write with it, it's like a giant pencil; quarts because of its crystal shape; and halite because it tastes like salt.
It was fun having Mr. Griggs in our school.
Mr. Griggs
By KAYTONNA HANDY-RUFFIN
Mr. Griggs told us about his rocks. He had lots of kinds of rocks. He showed us how to determine the different types of rocks. We had to do paperwork in our study. He told us what things we should know.
There was a cool rock and we learned all about this rock. He told us what his favorite type of rock was. It was as fun as ever. Mr. Griggs used to be a Science teacher.
