A Pennsylvania College of Technology student has been awarded one of only six $5,000 national scholarships from the National Association of Oil and Energy Service Professionals association.

Zachary R. Baylor, of Danville, in his first year toward an associate degree in heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology: commercial refrigeration emphasis, will receive a Dave Nelsen Scholarship at the group's annual convention in May.

Selection criteria include a 500-word essay and a letter of recommendation; in his essay, Baylor mentions his father taking him along on service calls in the family business as a youngster.

"Zachary's accomplishment of winning this scholarship is significant," said Richard C. Taylor, associate professor of plumbing and heating and secretary of the association's Susquehanna Valley Chapter. "Over 55 students from colleges and technical schools in the eastern states competed, with only six winners."

Baylor is the 10th Penn College student since 2006 to win a scholarship from the organization.
