MANSFIELD - Harold C. Shields, principal in Harold C. Shields HR Consulting, LLC and a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors, will be the speaker at Mansfield University's Commencement at 11 a.m. Saturday in Decker Gymnasium.
"Harold Shields is a pioneer, a leader and a great advocate for higher education," Interim MU President Allan Golden said in making the announcement. "His story of vision, perseverance and success is the kind that we want our graduates to hear. We are honored to have him speak at our Commencement."
Prior to forming his own consulting firm, Shields was human resources director of Global Business Services and HR director of Pittsburgh Resource Units for Alcoa in Pittsburgh for 28 years, until retiring in 2009.

In addition to serving on the PASSHE Board of Governors, Shields is a member of the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania Council of Trustees, and is a past member of the Edinboro University Foundation's Board of Directors and Alumni Board. He earned both a bachelor's and master's degree from Edinboro.
Among his many civic efforts, Shields also has worked for the Opportunities Industrialization Center in Erie, a self-help program founded in Philadelphia by the late Leon H. Sullivan. He has served as board president of Three Rivers Youth and as a board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pittsburgh.
