JERSEY SHORE - Friday's baseball game between Jersey Shore and Montoursville was suspended after just eight outs, tied at 1-1, because of a storm that ripped through the area.
No completion date was announced last night.
The home plate umpire initially put the game in a delay at 4:47 p.m. because of a lightning strike well beyond the center-field fence. But it took just 30 minutes for the lightning strikes to intensify, followed by rain. The game was called before the brunt of the storm could come through.
Montoursville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Christian Clark roped a one-out double into the left-field corner to score Pierce Ranck from first base. The Warriors put runners on first and second with two outs, but Jersey Shore starter Tellef Notevarp got out of the inning with a strikeout.
The Bulldogs evened the score in the bottom of the inning when Colton Potter led off with a double to right field when a fly ball was misjudged. He scored two batters later on a Blake Musser two-strike single to left field.
Two batters later, Zach Miller was hit by a pitch, and a passed ball put runners on second and third with two outs. Clark got out of the inning with a weak ground ball to first base.
When the game resumes, Montoursville will be at-bat with two outs and nobody on base in the top of the second inning.
