Roundup: Muncy welcomes two latest members in Hall of Fame

The?Muncy High?School Athletic Hall of Fame committee announced its newest members for the Class of 2012. Kathy Brehm, from Muncy (2000) and Ralph "Butch"?Feigles, from LaBelle,?Fla.?(1953) are slated for induction at the annual Muncy alumni banquet on Saturday, May 26 at the Ward L.?Myers Elementary School.

Brehm was a standout catcher for the Indians and holds numerous offensive and defensive records for Muncy. Brehm made Mid-Penn?League first team all-stars all four years of her career while also being named Freshman of the Year.

She was a two-year captain and member of the 1999 team that was the first Muncy softball team to play for a district championship and qualify for the state playoffs. In 1999, Brehm was a member of the?ASA state champions at the?Keystone games and in 2011, was selected as a member of the PIAA?District 4 Softball Hall of Fame.

In addition to softball, she also played basketball for three seasons, including lettering her senior year. She later became a junior high softball coach at Muncy.

Feigles earned eight varsity letters during his Muncy athletic career while playing basketball, football, wrestling and on the gym team, and was a captain in all his senior year.

Feigles was both a halfback and linebacker and was a member of Muncy's 1953 West Branch championship team. Feigles tallied 11 touchdowns his senior year and had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage.?It was Muncy's first title since 1941.

In 1954, Feigles played a year of college football as a walk on at Penn State.

In baseball, Feigles was a centerfielder who batted over .300 for his career.?He also played in the?Lycoming County Softball League, where he won two league titles.

Warrior Run Social Hall hosting a bench and deadlift challenge

The Warrior Run Social Hall in Allenwood is hosting a bench and deadlift challenge on May 26 with weigh-ins beginning at 7 a.m. and running through 10 a.m. and a rules meeting at 10:15 a.m.

The Beast of the Bench and Deadlift Challenge is being hosted by Chris Kitchen, a veteran of over 60 competitions and 19 years of weightlifting.

The event will have six classes: Open, Teen, Youth (7-12), Sub-Masters (33-39), Masters (40 and over) and Women. Lifters can register separately for the bench competition and deadlift or they may do both.

The top three finishers in all weight classes receive a sculptured trophy. The competitor with the biggest bench press will win $1,000 with the second-place and third-place finishes earning $500 and $250, respectively.

There are separate classes for Raw lifters (no bench shirts) and Geared lifters (bench shirts permitted).

Special guest will include John Bogart, who is the world record holder in the drug free division of the bench press. His personal best lift is 804 pounds. Niko Huslander, the Pennsylvania record holder in the deadlift at 733 pounds, will also make an appearance.

Admission is free and food stands will be available. All the proceeds from concessions will go to the Warrior Run football and weightlifting programs. Lifting begins at 11 a.m.

LHU softball loses in region final

Lock Haven's softball team ended its season with a 1-0 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan in the 2012 NCAA?Atlantic Region 2 final at California, Pa.

The?Bald Eagles' Sarah?Morse and West Virginia Wesleyan's Hillary Perez-Ashley combined to allow just 11 hits. The game lasted only an hour and 14 minutes.

Morse scattered four hits and struck out five in seven innings. Brittany Favazza had four of Lock Haven's seven hits.
