Outside the box

May 8, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

The Montgomery School Board has become the first very unpopular governing board to break a forever held athletic principle. They have fenced in their baseball field and created a $5 admittance fee for high school baseball. Many of their community have complained to a proverbial deaf ear. Traditionally Football and Wrestling matches have modest charges for attending their events.

Traditionally, state playoff events and fundraising events have broad support for attendance fees at those events. All other high school sports have traditionally never had gate fees. Fans have supported and approved of 50/50 drawings and concessions at athletic events. Fans and parents have traditionally supported endless numbers of fund raising events that support the various athletic teams. Fans and parents have always supported the concession stands at most sporting events.

Now fans and parents far and wide are upset with this Montgomery School Board administered tax to all who already support their teams financially. The present unrest has reached deeply within the fan base of all who now must pay to see sport of baseball only at Montgomery High School. Unrest has even been noted throughout the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania.

I live in Loyalsock Township. I feel walked upon and trampled by the Montgomery School Board's action that is way outside the box. No other School Board in North Central Pennsylvania has ever charged the fan base a fee for high school baseball. Please reverse this unfair tax.
