Picture Rocks may move volleyball court

PICTURE ROCKS - The springtime turning wet in the past few weeks has slowed work on cleaning up Picture Rocks' parks.

"We're working on Rocks Park at this time," Council President Eugene Otterbein said at Monday's borough council meeting. "We have two loads of fill to put down where we've been working on building it back up, as soon as the weather permits."

The borough still is working on recovering from last fall's flooding.

"We had a team come in from CareerLink this week that helped get the bocce court cleaned up," borough secretary Bill Dorman said. "We have to check with FEMA to see if we can use some of our funding for flood mitigation measures, so we can move the volleyball court (at Van Rennselaer Park) out of the high water area."

Every time the volleyball court floods, obtaining a full load of sand costs the borough $2,340, Dorman said.

Council approved the purchase of five tickets, for $100, to the North Central PA Red Cross "Heroes Breakfast" on June 8, at the Genetti Hotel. The Picture Rocks Volunteer Fire Co. will be honored at the event for its work during last September's flooding.

Fire Chief Al Little requested that council look into additional signage near the fire hall's entrance, so that people parking to fish in Muncy Creek do not block the company's access to its lot.

"No one parks in front of the sign," Little said, "but that doesn't mean they're parked right."

Council meets next at 7 p.m. June 4 at the borough hall, 55 S. Main St.
