TOWANDA - A competency hearing scheduled for today for John DeSisti, accused in the shotgun deaths of David and Carol Keeffe in 2006, has been canceled with no explanation, according to Bradford County court administration personnel.

The hearing had been set for Friday, but was moved before being canceled altogether.

A new date for the hearing has not been set.

DeSisti, 75, of Waverly, N.Y., is charged with criminal homicide in the Nov. 17, 2006, killings of the Keeffes in their rural Athens Township home, which the prosecution says stemmed from a land dispute between DeSisti and his first cousin, Carol Keeffe.

Jury selection for the trial, which was to start April 23, was postponed until April 30 before being postponed.
