Comedy Extravaganza

Mother’s Day comedy show comes to Scottish Rite

May 10, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Distinguished Gentlemen and Dumbloud.com will present "Mother's Day Laugh Out Loud Comedy Extravaganza" at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Scottish Rite, 348 Market St.

Co-promoter Ibn Ali, owner of Dumbloud.com, said that he wanted to help organize a comedy event in Williamsport because there's no comedy club in Williamsport and it will give people something to do on Mother's Day.

"I wanted to bring a little of the city life to Williamsport," Ali said. "And who doesn't like to laugh? Comedy brings people together."

The promoters chose to hold the event at the Scottish Rite because it was just the type of venue they were looking for.

"We really liked the building," he said. "It had the right atmosphere."

Ali, who also is a rapper and producer himself, said that several of the comedians who will perform at the show have appeared on BET's "Comic View," "Def Comedy Jam" and Comedy Central.

"They're recognizable names but none of them have had their Kevin Hart-break yet," he said.

The featured performers are:

RIP Michaels

Micheals is one of comedy's most influential people on stage. Born and raised in Chicago, Ill., Micheals uses his "take no prisoners style" to keep audiences entertained as he touches on issues such as relationships, world events and the therapeutic value of a good life. Michaels has appeared on BETs "Comic View," "Jamie Fox's Laffapoolza," "Showtime at the Apollo," "P Diddy's Bad Boys of Comedy," MTV's "Punk'd" and Comedy Central.

Nikki Carr

In just a short time, Carr has appeared on BET's "Comic View" and "It's Showtime at the Apollo." Carr is well-known for her comedic national anthem "Fat Girls." Since making her television debut, Carr has been highly requested by colleges, universities and military bases worldwide.

Kool Bubba Ice

Born Roger McCobb in Newark, N.J., Kool Bubba Ice has been doing stand-up comedy since the age of 15. He acquired his nickname because of his antics and strange costumes on stage. He has appeared on many television shows, including "The Apollo Comedy Hour," in which he was a cast member, "Hardcore TV" on HBO, "The Richard Bey Show," "Def Comedy Jam" and BET's "Comic View." He also has appeared in the films "Rising to the Top" and "Comedy in the Hood."

Jessimae Peluso

Peluso is quickly becoming one of the most prominent female voices in the comedy world. The blonde-haired, brown-eyed comic has been a fixture on the East Coast comedy scene while traveling the country performing for the college crowds, comedy clubs and theatre venues.

Born and raised in Syracuse, N.Y., Peluso has been seen on the "Tyra Banks Show," Tru TV's "All Worked Up" and has been featured in several commercials, including an international campaign for Nintendo. Peluso was a finalist at the Boston Comedy Festival, Women In Comedy Festival (WICF), New York City's "Funniest Comedian Contest," was featured on the "5 Funny Females Tour" and headlines her own show, "Hometown Humour Tour," each year at Syracuse's Palace Theatre.

Tickets for "Mother's Day Laugh Out Loud Comedy Extravaganza" are $20 or $32.50 for dinner and a show. Tickets for the dinner and comedy combination must be bought today.
