Eleanor "Mammie" Rathmell, 94, of Mertzon, Texas, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2012, in a Texas care center.
She was born Aug. 3, 1917, in Williamsport, a daughter of Harold and Estella Hamilton Cupp.
Mammie married Ralph Rathmell on July 14, 1934, in Williamsport, and shared 72 years together until his passing on Oct. 8, 2006. She was a homemaker and seamstress and was asked by the mayor of Williamsport to make the first city flag in 1956 and was called the Betsy Ross of Williamsport. Mammie and Ralph moved to Texas in 1970 and called Mertzon their home for many years.

She was predeceased by her mother and father; husband; son, Lee Roy Rathmell; daughter, Doris Shank; and brother, Jim Cupp.
Mammie is survived by her daughters, Esther P. Thorp of Mertzon and Kay (Dolf) Cillo of Williamsport; and a son, Kenneth (Ann) Rathmell of Williamsport. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2012, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with her nephews, the Rev. George Rathmell, the Rev. Daniel Rathmell and the Rev. Guy Rathmell officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.
