Williamsport Sun-Gazette

MANSFIELD - Michael W. Hinman, 25, of 21 High St., Morris Run, was charged by the state Game Commission with unlawfully killing deer. He is the second person to be charged.

Zachary R. Zimmers, 21, of 20 Railroad St., Ralston, was charged last month in connection with the same incidents.

According to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson's office, Hinman was charged with eight counts of killing deer out of season, conspiring with another person to do so, unlawfully using spotlights, shooting across a public highway, shooting through a safety zone or within a safety zone, and possession of loaded firearms in a vehicle.

The deer were shot at night in Putnam, Covington and Sullivan townships between Feb. 24 and 27, officers said. Witnesses said they saw the two men using a spotlight to find deer and then heard shooting from the roadway.

Hinman was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail and his preliminary hearing is set for May 23.
