Old Lycoming sets pace in solid DUI enforcement locally

May 18, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Old Lycoming Township's police department has been honored for the fourth straight year with a first place award among seven police departments for its DUI enforcement.

The award comes from the Lycoming County DUI Advisory Council and is based on the number of DUI arrests made per officer and the number of hours spent by the department on field sobriety testing.

All seven departments are participating heavily in DUI prevention activities, which can only help make our local area safer and reduce the chance of a tragedy.

DUI checkpoints will be continuing all summer. We'd like to see zero charges based on those checkpoints. That would be the best evidence that drunken driving has been reduced significantly in the county.
