MONTGOMERY - Springs Window Fashions continues to wind down manufacturing operations at its Clinton Township plant.
"We may be close to making our last blind in Montgomery," Craig Hanson, human resources manager, said.
In January, the company announced it would close its plant along Route 405, just east of Montgomery. At the time, Hanson cited market and economic conditions as the reasons for the move.
About 150 people eventually will lose their jobs because operations are being transferred to Wisconsin and Mexico.
A number of people have been let go from the local plant.
"We are down now to 45 people in manufacturing," Hanson said.
While the plant eventually will close, Hanson said it's not happening this week, despite some rumors to the contrary.
Meanwhile, the company's customer service operations are alive and well in the area. About 225 people perform those duties in Montgomery and Williamsport.
Those employees field numerous calls each day about various problems, status of orders and technical questions.
"This year we hired more customer service people," Hanson said. "Those are our only customer centers in Springs Windows. They are extremely important operations."
Springs Window is a manufacturer of blinds, window shades, shutters, specialty window treatment solutions and window hardware.
Overall, the company employs about 5,000 people, with operations in five states and Mexico.
