City on right track with fine request for problem properties

May 20, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Starting Monday, Williamsport codes officials will be asking district judges to impose a maximum $1,000 fine per building code violation on property owners who ignore repeated warnings.

Of 34 properties on the city's blighted properties list, 22 of them are in the process of being taken care of, with owners either taking out a permit to fix deficiences or informing the city they intend to sell the properties.

The city is running out of patience on the other 12.

Sometimes, in those cases, money coming out of a pocket is the only way to get someone's attention.

The city is on the right track with its fine request.
