Roundup Lancers qualify for playoffs on final day

Casey Ulmer threw a complete-game two-hitter and struck out six as Loyalsock won its third straight game and clinched a District 4 Class AA playoff berth, blanking State College, 10-0 in five innings. The Lancers (10-10) had to win their final three games to qualify and did so with style, outscoring the opposition, 35-9.

"I give the girls a lot of credit," coach Matt Whipple said. "They had to go out there and perform and they did it. They did a real nice job."

Allie Pagana, Allison Czap and Heidi Womeldorf each had two hits and Loyalsock earned a spot against Lourdes in Tuesday's opening round. Ulmer struck out six and pitched one of her best games this season.

Montgomery ended its regular season with a flourish, blanking Sullivan County, 14-0 in five innings. Emily Shnyder threw a one-hitter and went 3 for 4 while seniors Kiersten Warzel, Courtney Wilk and Kaitlyn Warzel all had two hits in their final home game.

Taylor Parker threw her sixth no-hitter of the season in a 2-0 win over Milton. She struck out 13.

In baseball, South Williamsport won the outright HAC III championship with a blowout 21-0 win over Millville in 4 innings to improve to 17-3. Caleb Catherine hit a 2-run HR with 4 RBI while Ryan Orgitano had a home run, two RBIs and scored four runs. The Mounties scored 15 runs in the fourth inning.

Sullivan County ended its regular season with a 9-1 win over Millville. Kelby Mullen and Zach Meyer combined to allow just one hit. Lucas Hatton had a double with 2 RBI.

Conor Flynn and Cody Forsburg each went 2 for 3 with an RBI while Brock Danneker had a double to help lead St. John Neumann to a 14-4 win in 6 innings past Northeast Bradford. Northeast Bradford was held to just three hits.
