Geraldine "Gerry" Knaus Durkee, 92, a resident of Broad Acres Nursing Home in Wellsboro, passed away May 20, 2012.
She was born March 8, 1920, in Wellsboro, the daughter of John Martin and Clara B. Kriner Knaus.
Gerry was a 1938 graduated from Wellsboro High School and a 1941 graduate of Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing.
She worked on staff at the Williamsport Hospital and as a private duty nurse for more than 40 years prior to retiring in 1982.
Gerry greatest joys were family and helping people in need.
Gerry is survived by two brothers, Kenneth J. (Diane) Knaus of Wellsboro and John M. (Doris) Knaus of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Carolyn K. (Wilbur) Smith and Elaine A. (William) Farrell, both from Wellsboro; also several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Christian Knaus; sister-in-law, Eva Knaus; and niece, Bonnie Dugan.
Relatives and friends are invited to Geraldine's Life Celebration service 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., "A Life Celebration Home," 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, with Pastor Peter A. DeVantier officiating. A visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to Trinity Lutheran Church, 52 West Ave., Wellsboro, PA 16901.
