Williamsport dancer joins
university's ballet theater
Rachel A. Bauer, of Williamsport, has been selected as a member of Mercyhurst Ballet Theatre for the 2012-13 season.
Bauer is a junior dance major, with a minor in psychology, at Mercyhurst University, Erie. She is the daughter of Keith R. and Mary Ann Bauer, Williamsport.
Mercyhurst Ballet Theatre is a premier ballet troupe comprised of a select group of eight students, and provides increased performance opportunities through touring and lecture demonstrations. The dancers are selected through an audition process.
City graduate earns scholarship
Sara Virginia Mitsdarfer, a 2012 graduate of Williamsport Area High School, received a Vickroy Scholarship to attend Lebanon College, Annville.
Students who graduate in the top 10 percent of their class receive the award, which is equal to half of their tuition.
Mitsdarfer plans to major in psychobiology. Because of her academic standing and her involvement in church and community, she also is a recipient of the St. Paul Lutheran Church Fund.
Jersey Shore student
inducted into society
Robert Watson Jr., son of Jill and Robert Watson of Jersey Shore, recently was inducted into Rochester Institute of Technology's Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society.
Watson is a 2008 graduate of Jersey Shore Area High School. He is a graduating senior studying information technology in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences.
Alpha Sigma Lambda was founded in 1964 to honor students who represent the guiding principles of ASL: Activities, Scholarship and Leadership.
City graduate earns
presidential award
Ivan Valentine Jr., a 2008 graduate of Williamsport Area High School, was named President of the Year by the Administration of Towson University at the Greek Life Awards Ceremony on May 9.
He was presented with a plaque and trophy. Valentine was president of Pi Kappa Alpha "Pike" Fraternity the year of 2011. He is a senior at Towson University pursuing a degree in psychology and criminal justice.
Alexus Stewart named
'Senior of the Month'
Alexus Stewart, daughter of Robert and Sherri Coppola, is South Williamsport Area High School's Senior of the Month.
Stewart's school activities and honors include honor roll and superior honor roll, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, Leo Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions.
In FCCLA, she was chapter member of the year, treasurer, won a silver medal in Interpersonal Communications, won a gold medal in Community Service, was a national team member, chairwoman of the Cancer Campaign and Smile Train, won a silver medal in Students Taking Action with Recognition and a member of Composition Club.
She is employed at Kmart. After graduation, she plans to work full-time.
