WELLSBORO - The 36th edition of the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally, will be held today with 65 rallyists hemisphere competing.
The event is the oldest, continuously-running motorsports event in the state and round four of the Rally America National Championship.
"We have more young drivers getting into the sport, while some of the veterans who have run with us in the '70s and '80s are still coming back to Wellsboro to compete," Meridith Croucher, event chairwoman, said.
The rally is an alcohol-free event, a change made several years ago to enhance the family enjoyment of the rally, Croucher added.
Directions to the free spectator areas will be available in the free spectator guides at the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce, the Tioga County Fairgounds or from www.stpr.org.
Forest spectating is free, but the Fairgrounds stages cost $5 for admission each day and VIP Super Pass tickets, which include bus transportation to private viewing areas and special up-front seating at the Fairgrounds are $50.
Waste Management, plus Citizens and Northern Bank, the Philadelphia Zone of Subaru of America, Inc., and the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce sponsor the event.
Today's schedule:
8:30 a.m.: Activities begin around the Green in Wellsboro
10:01 a.m.: The rally begins
6.50 p.m.: First car arrives at fairgrounds.
Scores will be posted as soon as possible after the rally ends nd an awards presentation will take place at the fairgrounds.
