Locally elected and appointed officials voted on the following matters in the past week:
County
Lycoming County Commissioners Tuesday voted to hire three attorneys to serve as additional legal counsel for the county. J. David Smith, Austin P. White and Jason L. Wiemann were appointed as assistant county solicitors.
Smith is to be paid $110 per hour for his services; White and Wiemann are to make $100 per hour. Commissioners also reappointed N. Randall Sees as county solicitor at an annual salary of $48,000. Also reappointed as assistant county solicitors were Robin A. Read, Benjamin E. Landon, Thomas C. Marshall, E. Eugene Yaw and Levi I. Woodward. Each will earn $110 per hour. Commissioners also reappointed Ryan M. Tira as special counsel for personnel and legal matters at $110 per hour. In other action, commissioners approved Hazard Mitigation Grant funds totaling $783,676 from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency for purchase of six properties sustaining heavy flooding last September.
Municipal
City Council voted to accept a $419,010 COPS hiring grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to hire two officers for three years, with the fourth year paid for through the city general fund. Voting in favor were Council President Bill Hall, Bonnie Katz, Jonathan Williamson, Don Noviello, Randall J. Allison and N. Clifford "Skip" Smith. Opposed was Councilwoman Liz Miele.
School district
Jersey Shore Area School Board voted 9-0 to approve a 15-day suspension without pay for Superintendent Richard Emery. The item also had a stipulation that if Emery is found guilty of charges against him that he will be required to speak with all district students to talk about his mistakes. Voting in favor were board members Robert Pryor, Shelley Helm, Craig Allen, Harry Brungard, Karen Stover, Denise Smith, Harry Miller, Heather Williamson and John Shireman.
