The attempted murder trial of Shakoor R. Trapp, who is charged with beating, choking, stabbing then shooting a 23-year-old woman in her Maple Street apartment last year, begins today in Lycoming County Court before Judge Marc F. Lovecchio.
Trapp, 24, allegedly broke into Tiffany Nixon's apartment in the 600 block of Maple Street in the early morning hours of May 29, 2011 and shot her three times while she was sleeping in her bedroom, according to police.
The trial is scheduled through Thursday.
Nixon sustained gunshot wounds to the face, knee and scalp and stabbing injuries to the rear shoulder and upper chest.
She was flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for emergency surgery and three days of hospitalization.
The victim did not have any previous contact with Trapp, and only knew him from the neighborhood, according to police.
Trapp was found by city police two days after the alleged incident hiding in an attic in the 500 block of High Street Previously, according to police, Trapp attempted to choke his wife during a domestic dispute in 2010 and allegedly attacked his sister-in-law while she was asleep on a couch in 2011.
