Again the Sun-Gazette misrepresents the truth to the public with a recent editorial cartoon.
The first half of the cartoon, a picture of a bag of money labeled "The capital Mitt Romney knows how to grow," is not an out-and-out lie. He does know how to grow it. He destroys companies, drives Americans out of work and keeps the profits.
The first part of the cartoon is not an untruth, but it is misleading.
The second part of the cartoon is a lie. It is a picture of the capitol dome labeled, "The capitol Barak Obama knows how to grow."
The New York Times had an article about jobs in the federal government under President Obama. The link is below. You can read a relevant paragraph Overall - including a decline of 12,000 public sector jobs in the Labor Department report for December - government employment is down 2.6 percent over the last three years, compared to a decline of 2.2 percent in the early Reagan years. That is a record.
Government employment is down almost three percent over the first three years of the Obama administration.
On the other hand, the Obama Administration is doing a great job creating an environment for job creation in the public sector. According to the Times, employers in the United States added 200,000 jobs last month, the Labor Department said
CNNMoney says other factors are responsible for much of the overspending by the current government, including Congress, the recession and the aging population. The conservative Heritage Foundation, which advocates for a reduced government role in society, acknowledges that much of the increase in federal spending originates in laws passed by this Congress and previous ones, but feels that Obama could do more to rein it in.
As to President Obama expanding the government, CNNMoney says the federal payroll has been expanding since President Bush took office, after declining during the Clinton administration.
But it's still a tad smaller than it was in 1992, said Craig Jennings, a federal budget expert at the progressive think tank OMB Watch.
