DUI Task Force charges 7 after traffic checkpoint

June 9, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

The Lycoming County DUI Task Force charged five motorists with driving under the influence of alcohol and two others with driving under the influence of a controlled substance at a DUI checkpoint that was conducted in the 1700 block of West Fourth Street on May 25, according to William Solomon, task force coordinator.

A total of 265 motorists were momentarily stopped. Field sobriety tests were administered, Solomon said.

A total of 24 traffic tickets were issued to motorists, ranging from such offenses as driving without license to driving without any insurance, Solomon said.

An intoxicated female bicyclist was stopped as she approached the checkpoint. She was charged with public drunkenness after a preliminary breath test revealed a suspected blood-alcohol level of .12, Solomon said. Officers opted against charging her with the more serious offense of driving under the influence of intoxicants.
