Doris M. Thompson, 89, of Oval, died on Friday, June 8, 2012, at Manor Care Health Center in Jersey Shore.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert C. Thompson, Nov. 30, 2008.
She was born on Sept. 13, 1922, in Oval and was the daughter of Guy and Myrtle Clark Kaufman.
Doris was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School. She was a member of Oval United Methodist Church. Doris had worked at the silk mill in Williamsport, as an operator for the Pennsylvania Telephone Company in Oval (when you still called the operator to connect), and for Doebler's Hybrids in South Avis. The most important part of Doris' life was her family and attending everyone's softball and baseball games.
Doris is survived by a daughter, Lorraine E. Meisel of Cogan Station; a son, John G. (Linda) Thompson of Jersey Shore; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Machmer, Scott (Jelena) Meisel, Daniel (Stacy) Thompson, Cory (Jamie) Keiser, Nicole (Chad) Bower, Melinda (Ted) DeWald and Steven (fiancee, Melanie Judy) Thompson; nine great-grandchildren, Samantha and Jacob Machmer, Elijah, Adalyn and Abram Bower, Luke and Nathan Thompson, Alexis Meisel and Caleb DeWald. She was predeceased by a daughter, Ellen K. Thompson; two brothers, Dayton Kaufman and Olen Kaufman and one sister, Blanche Shortledge.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2012, in the Oval United Methodist Church, 6796 S. Rt. 44 Highway, Jersey Shore, with Reverend Wanda L. Minnick officiating. Burial will be in Oval Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. Monday until time of the service.
