At a time when housing is at a premium, the proposed razing of three homes owned by Lycoming College to make room for a parking lot expansion near Union Avenue is the main topic on City Council's agenda Thursday night.
The homes are near the Robert Shangraw Athletic Complex, where the Lycoming College Warriors play football, soccer and lacrosse. The addresses are listed as 91 Union Ave., 97 Union Ave. and 81 Union Ave.
The college has proposed a 73-space parking lot expansion, and on June 21 the city zoning hearing board meeting will address the issue.
The college wants to build an entrance plaza to give it more parking spaces for the stadium. The plan is to create an aesthetically pleasing plaza to match the rest of the campus facilities and complex.
The additional parking is expected to benefit fans during game days and student athletes who train for football season and park their vehicles.
Adding parking is expected to alleviate the on-street parking by fans when the Warriors play Saturday home football games.
Joseph Gerardi, codes administrator, will present the demolition requests to council.
Another land-related but separate issue includes council holding a scheduled public hearing on a conditional use request by EBS Realty, 1248 W. Third St.
Council meets 7:30 p.m. in its chambers on the second floor of City Hall.
